Mostar
Mostar is situated on the river Neretva. The Old Bridge was built by the Ottomans in the 16th century. A wooden bridge stood on the site previously. In 1992 Bosnia and Herzegovina declared independence from Yugoslavia; the town was subject to an 18 month siege with continual bombing from the Jugoslav People’s Army. Most of the historic buildings, including the Old Bridge, were destroyed or damaged. After the war a lot of money was donated to rebuild the town and it’s buildings to their original historic design.
