New York
New York City comprises 5 boroughs sitting where the Hudson River meets the Atlantic Ocean. The city was founded as a trading post by Dutch colonists in 1624 on Lower Manhattan, then named New Amsterdam. The city came under English control in 1664 and renamed New York after Charles 11 granted the lands to his brother the Duke of York.
