Empire State Building,
The 102 storey Art Deco style Empire State Building, situated Midtown Manhattan, was completed in 1931 and was the tallest building in the world until 1970 following completion of the North Tower of the World Trade Centre. Its name is derived from Empire State, a nickname given to New York which is of unknown origin.
